Measuring Instructions

1.  Ensure Accuracy :  You will need a tape measure, ruler and graph paper.

2.  Measure : Record the overall length of each wall.  Working to your right around the room.  Label windows, doors with numbers, then record individual wall measurements, ensuring that the individual measurements add up to the overall length.  Measure any existing furniture, it it will be re-purposed.  All obstructions like HVAC ducts or soffits, mechanical components that will be incorporated into the design, or worked around. 

3.   Ceiling Heights :  Measure all ceiling heights and note any angles or ceiling treatments.

4.   Get the Width and Height of windows and doors.  Record vertical measurements : Floor to windowsill, from windowsill to top of window, from top of window to ceiling, and from the floor to the ceiling. 

5.    Include the Trim when measuring doors and windows.  The casing is considered part of the door or window.  Measure from one side to the other of the door or window trim. 

6.    Find your Center :  Indicate the centerline of all permanent features in measurements including wall oven, range sinks, windows, doors, closets, ducts and outlets. 

7.    Labelling :  Label rooms, obstructions, appliances, electrical outlets, switches and doors/openings that lead to other spaces or outside.
